Panaji: The Goa government has officially notified 1.03 crore square metres of ecologically sensitive land in South Goa’s Salcete taluka as a No Development Zone (NDZ) under the Regional Plan.
State Town and Country Planning Minister Vishwajit Rane announced on Friday that the protected area includes salt pans, paddy fields, and other environmentally sensitive lands spread across seven villages in Salcete taluk.
According to the minister, the largest notified area is in Talaulim, covering 29.13 lakh square metres, followed by Majorda (17.64 lakh sq m), Seraulim (16.81 lakh sq m), Loutolim (16.71 lakh sq m), Utorda (9.92 lakh sq m), Orlim (9.49 lakh sq m), and Calata (4.08 lakh sq m), taking the total protected area to 103.78 lakh square metres (1.03 crore sq m).
The move aims to safeguard ecologically sensitive regions from future development and preserve the area’s natural environment.
