Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast that the southwest monsoon will become active across Kerala from today, bringing widespread rainfall to several parts of the state.
A Yellow Alert has been issued for Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod districts, warning of heavy rainfall.
Rain alerts have been issued for all districts except Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam. The IMD has also predicted very heavy rainfall in northern Kerala on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday, with hilly regions expected to receive intense showers.
Meanwhile, fishing has been prohibited along the Kerala, Karnataka, and Lakshadweep coasts due to rough sea conditions, and fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea until further notice.
