Kozhikode: Health authorities have confirmed a case of Nipah virus infection in a 44-year-old man from Ramanattukara in Kozhikode district. The positive result was confirmed by the National Institute of Virology (NIV), Pune.
The patient, a resident near Farook College within the Ramanattukara municipality limits, remains in critical condition and is undergoing treatment.
Following the confirmation of the infection, the Rapid Response Team (RRT) convened a meeting and intensified containment measures. Thirteen people who had close contact with the patient have been placed under home quarantine.
Authorities have so far identified 77 individuals in the patient’s contact list, including 14 family members and 58 healthcare workers. None of the contacts have shown symptoms of the disease at present.
Health officials have also prepared the patient’s route map as part of contact-tracing efforts. Authorities said the affected area will be declared a containment zone if any of the contacts develop symptoms. Monitoring and surveillance activities have been strengthened to prevent further spread of the virus.
