A moderate earthquake measuring 4.7 on the Richter scale struck Assam’s Cachar district on Thursday night, sending tremors across parts of the Northeast region.
According to the seismic observatory in Shillong, the earthquake occurred at 9:10 pm at a depth of 39 kilometres. The epicentre was located in Cachar district at latitude 24.941° North and longitude 93.007° East.
The tremors were felt in several areas, including Meghalaya’s capital Shillong, causing brief concern among residents. However, authorities said there were no immediate reports of casualties or damage to property.
Officials are monitoring the situation, and further assessments are underway.
