Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday said Naxalism has been completely eradicated from the country ahead of the March 31, 2026 deadline, crediting the achievement to the bravery, courage and sacrifices of security forces.
Addressing a press conference in Jagdalpur, Shah said the success of the “Naxal-Free India Campaign” was made possible through coordinated efforts by security agencies and state governments.
He said certain dates would remain historically significant in the campaign against Naxalism. According to Shah, the decisive phase of the anti-Naxal operation began on December 13, 2023, when the Bharatiya Janata Party government assumed office in Chhattisgarh.
Amit Shah also recalled the meeting of Directors General of Police from various states held on August 24, 2024, during which a resolution was adopted to make the country free from Naxalism by March 31, 2026.
The Home Minister said the campaign succeeded because of the “valour, courage and supreme sacrifice” of security personnel who carried out operations in difficult and remote regions affected by Left-wing extremism.
