East Rutherford: FIFA has launched an investigation into an on-field altercation between players of Argentina and Spain following Spain’s victory in the FIFA World Cup final.
The incident occurred during Spain’s post-match celebrations, which briefly turned chaotic after players from both teams became involved in a confrontation.
Video footage of the clash showed several players exchanging pushes, with Argentina midfielder Leandro Paredes appearing to grab Spain defender Eric Garcia by the throat. Spain substitute Gavi stepped in to intervene but was reportedly pushed to the ground by Paredes.
FIFA confirmed that it has opened disciplinary proceedings to examine the incident and determine whether any players will face sanctions. Further action will depend on the findings of the investigation.
