PM Highlights Nuclear Milestone, Renewable Energy Push in ‘Mann Ki Baat’

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday highlighted India’s scientific progress and clean energy initiatives during his monthly radio programme Mann Ki Baat.

Speaking about recent achievements, the Prime Minister said India’s civil nuclear programme continues to play a key role in national development, benefiting sectors such as industry, energy, healthcare, and agriculture.

He noted that the Fast Breeder Reactor at Kalpakkam in Tamil Nadu has recently achieved “criticality” — a stage where a nuclear reactor begins a self-sustaining chain reaction, marking its transition into the operational phase. Modi described it as a historic milestone and emphasised that the reactor has been built using indigenous technology.

The Prime Minister explained that a breeder reactor not only generates energy but also produces additional fuel for future use, enhancing long-term energy security.

Congratulating scientists involved in the project, Modi said their efforts would contribute significantly to building a developed India.

He also underlined the importance of renewable energy, particularly wind power, describing it as an invisible force driving the country’s progress and a key component of India’s sustainable energy future.
