Drought-Hit Farmer Sends Rs 5,000 Money Order to Maharashtra CM in Protest Against ‘Paltry’ Aid

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Protesting against what he described as inadequate interim financial assistance announced by the Maharashtra government for drought-hit farmers, a soybean cultivator from Dharashiv district has sent a money order of Rs 5,000 to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

On Wednesday, Fadnavis announced that an initial relief amount of Rs 5,000 would be directly credited to farmers’ bank accounts ahead of Diwali. The announcement came after more than 85 per cent of talukas in the state were declared drought-hit.

The state government has also added 40 more talukas to the drought-affected list, taking the total number of affected talukas to 305 out of 358 across Maharashtra.

The farmer sent the money order as a mark of protest against the relief amount, which he considered insufficient to address the hardships faced by drought-hit cultivators.
