Education Must Go Beyond Jobs, Says Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Thursday said that education should not be limited to securing employment but must also promote social responsibility, inclusivity, and character-building.

Addressing the Annual Day ceremony at Kirori Mal College, Om Birla urged students to align their ambitions with the broader national vision and actively participate in the democratic process. He noted that true progress is meaningful only when development reaches the last person in society.

Highlighting changes in the education sector, he said the National Education Policy 2020 is transforming learning by encouraging critical thinking and academic flexibility. He stressed that knowledge and skills must be supported by strong moral values, integrity, and perseverance to achieve lasting success.

Emphasising the role of educators, Birla described teachers as the architects of society who shape responsible and aware citizens. He also praised the college for its inclusive initiatives, particularly efforts to empower visually impaired students through technology and skill development.

Later, speaking at the Annual Day of Maharaja Agrasen College, Birla encouraged students to contribute to the nation’s democratic and developmental journey. He said the vision of “Viksit Bharat 2047” can be achieved through the innovation, commitment, and active participation of the youth.
