Ganesh Kumar apologises; wife Bindu Menon says she is not interested in continuing controversy

Pathanapuram: A new turn has emerged in the controversy surrounding Kerala minister K. B. Ganesh Kumar after his wife Bindu Menon said he had apologised and expressed willingness to resolve the issue.

Speaking to the media, Bindu Menon said the minister called her on Tuesday morning and conveyed that the matter was essentially a family issue that could be resolved through discussion. She added that she is not interested in escalating the controversy further.

Bindu said her earlier statements were made in an emotional state and clarified that she has no intention of personally harming Ganesh Kumar. She also confirmed that she would not file any complaint against him.

“I was waiting for him to apologise. He assured me that the issues can be resolved through discussion,” she said, adding that her intention in raising the allegations was not to abandon him but to address the situation. She also stated that she still cares deeply for him.

The allegations made earlier by Bindu Menon had triggered widespread controversy and speculation about the minister’s possible resignation. Reports had suggested that the matter might be discussed in the state cabinet meeting and that a decision regarding his resignation could be taken.

However, the minister’s apology appears to have brought a temporary pause to the political and public debate.

Earlier, Bindu Menon had levelled serious allegations against the minister, claiming she had witnessed a disturbing situation at his residence. She also alleged that members of the minister’s personal staff had assaulted her and attempted to seize her mobile phone to prevent the matter from becoming public.

According to her, the minister’s driver and another staff member had restrained her after she took photographs of what she witnessed, making her fear for her safety. She said she had called the police emergency number 112 for help but that the people involved had left before the police arrived.

Bindu Menon had also earlier clarified that she was not interested in pursuing legal action in the matter. Observers are now watching whether the minister’s apology will bring the controversy to an end.
