Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed officials to begin incorporating lessons on drug de-addiction into the state’s school curriculum as part of efforts to create greater awareness among students about the dangers of substance abuse.
Chairing a review meeting of the School Education Department on Monday, the Chief Minister instructed officials to initiate the process of integrating anti-drug education into the curriculum, according to an official statement.
Fadnavis said Maharashtra continues to be one of the country’s leading states in school education and is committed to strengthening its student-centric education system by maintaining high academic standards while promoting the Marathi language, preserving the state’s history and expanding modern educational facilities.
The proposed inclusion of drug de-addiction lessons is aimed at equipping students with awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse and encouraging healthy lifestyle choices from an early age, the statement added.
