Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala continues to reel under intense heat, with Kannur recording the highest temperature in the past 24 hours at a sweltering 37°C, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Daytime temperatures climbed to 35°C in Ernakulam, Kottayam, and Kozhikode, while Thiruvananthapuram recorded the lowest daytime temperature at 31°C. The lowest night temperature of 20°C was reported in Punalur. The IMD has forecast generally dry weather across the State until February 17. In view of rising temperatures, an Orange Alert was issued in Idukki, where Munnar recorded a high UV Index of 8, while Yellow Alerts were sounded in Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, and Wayanad, with UV levels touching 6.

The State Disaster Management Authority has warned that prolonged exposure to high ultraviolet radiation could lead to sunstroke, skin ailments, eye disorders, and other health complications. The UV index is expected to peak between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., and the public has been advised to avoid direct sunlight during these hours. Outdoor workers, fishermen, two-wheeler riders, tourists, and individuals with skin, eye, or immunity-related conditions have been urged to exercise extra caution. Authorities recommend using hats, umbrellas, and sunglasses, wearing full-sleeved cotton clothing, and taking regular breaks in shaded areas to minimize heat-related risks.
