Bhubaneswar: The flood situation in Odisha showed signs of improvement on Friday as water levels in major rivers receded below danger marks, with no significant rainfall reported, allowing authorities to accelerate restoration efforts.
However, the relief may be temporary, as the India Meteorological Department has forecast rain across the state from Friday to August 27, including heavy rainfall in coastal and northern districts.
The government said more than 13.44 lakh people were affected by floods in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar, making rescue and relief operations challenging.
