Kerala Feels Shortchanged in Union Budget; High-Speed Rail and AIIMS Missing Once Again

Kerala has expressed strong disappointment over the Union Budget, with State Industries Minister P. Rajeeve stating that the proposals have once again overlooked the state’s key development priorities. He noted that Kerala was the first state in India to come forward with a high-speed rail project, yet it has been excluded from the Centre’s list of seven high-speed rail corridors, a move he described as clear discrimination.

Adding to the setback, Kerala’s long-cherished demand for an AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences) failed to find mention in the Budget for yet another year. The absence of a premier healthcare institution is being viewed as a serious blow to the state’s health sector and its aspirations for advanced medical infrastructure.

Political leaders and observers have criticised the Budget for neglecting Kerala in major national development initiatives, warning that such omissions could hamper the state’s progress in infrastructure development and healthcare advancement.
