More than 60 people reportedly fell ill after consuming ‘prasad’ during a religious function at a village in Uttar Pradesh’s Kannauj district, officials said on Saturday.
The incident occurred during a ‘Satyanarayan Katha’ held on Friday night at the residence of Munna Lal Kashyap in Simuapur village.
According to officials, the prasad distributed at the event included ‘panchamrit’ and ‘panjiri’. Soon after consuming it, several attendees began experiencing health issues during the night.
Initially, those affected were taken to nearby private clinics for treatment. As their condition worsened, all 62 people were later shifted to the district hospital for medical care.
Health officials have begun an investigation into the incident, while the condition of the patients is being monitored.
