Clean Toilets on the Go Made Easy: Kerala Government Launches ‘Kloo’ Mobile App

Finding a clean and safe toilet while travelling in Kerala has now become easier with the launch of the ‘Kloo’ mobile application, developed under the leadership of the State Suchitwa Mission. The app was inaugurated by Local Self-Government Minister M.B. Rajesh at the Mascot Hotel here.

The minister said the app is a major initiative under the ‘Malinyamukta Navakeralam’ (Waste-Free New Kerala) campaign and marks an important milestone in the state’s journey towards improved sanitation and hygiene. The app is designed to help travellers—including women and children—easily locate clean, safe and accessible toilet facilities during journeys.

The Cloo app integrates public toilets, toilets in private hotels, and other approved facilities, enabling users to quickly identify nearby options. The project has been implemented with the cooperation of local self-government institutions and the Kerala Hotel and Restaurant Association. Toilets at 1,832 government-run ‘Take a Break’ centres with high cleanliness ratings have also been included in the app.

Developed by Frugal Scientific Private Limited, the app is expected to provide significant relief to both local commuters and tourists, the minister said.

Only toilets that meet Suchitwa Mission’s prescribed hygiene standards and have been officially rated are included in the Kloo network. Users can also rate facilities directly through the app, helping ensure continuous monitoring and maintenance of cleanliness standards.

In the first phase, the app covers toilets located along major National Highways, State Highways and key tourism routes across the state.
