Samson backs young pacers, identifies Tilak’s dismissal as turning point in WI defeat

India wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson has defended the team’s young fast bowlers following India’s 24-run defeat to the West Indies in the fourth T20 international, expressing confidence that they would improve with experience.

He also described Tilak Varma’s dismissal as a crucial moment in India’s unsuccessful run chase.

India were bowled out for 223 in 19.3 overs while chasing the West Indies’ imposing total of 248. Shai Hope led the Caribbean side’s batting with an unbeaten 102 off just 50 deliveries, while Keemo Paul claimed five wickets to help the visitors level the five-match series at 2-2.

Speaking after the match, Samson acknowledged the challenge of replacing India’s premier fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah, who was rested for the contest. He described Bumrah as a once-in-a-generation bowler whose experience and skill are difficult to replicate.

However, Samson backed India’s emerging pace attack, saying the young bowlers would develop their abilities as they gained more opportunities at the international level.

Samson also reflected on India’s batting performance, pointing to Tilak Varma’s dismissal as a decisive moment that disrupted the team’s chase. Despite India’s efforts to keep up with the required scoring rate, the target proved beyond their reach. With the five-match series now level at 2-2, the teams head into the final encounter with the series victory at stake.
