Award-winning documentary ‘Turtle Walker’ to premiere on Animal Planet on October 19

Mumbai: The acclaimed wildlife documentary Turtle Walker, directed by Taira Malaney and produced by Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti, will make its television premiere on Animal Planet on October 19 under the channel’s special series, India: Epic Wild Stories.

The documentary highlights the remarkable conservation journey of Satish Bhaskar, who dedicated years to exploring India’s coastline and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands to document sea turtle nesting sites and support efforts to protect these endangered marine animals.

Produced by Tiger Baby and Emaho Films in collaboration with Oscar-nominated HHMI Tangled Bank Studios, the film traces Bhaskar’s expeditions, which began in the late 1970s.

One of the documentary’s notable chapters focuses on his time on Suheli Par, an uninhabited island in Lakshadweep, where he lived in isolation while pursuing his conservation work. During this period, he maintained contact with his wife through letters placed in bottles and sent across the sea.

Through Bhaskar’s experiences, Turtle Walker explores the challenges of wildlife conservation, the importance of protecting marine ecosystems and the personal sacrifices involved in documenting and safeguarding sea turtles.

The television premiere is expected to introduce the conservationist’s inspiring story to a wider audience, highlighting India’s rich marine biodiversity and the need to preserve it for future generations.
