Legendary Bollywood actor Dharmendra, fondly known as the He-Man of Indian cinema, has passed away at the age of 89. The iconic star had been undergoing treatment for heart-related complications. After his condition worsened, he was shifted home from the hospital and was on life-support systems until his final moments.
Dharmendra’s demise marks the end of an era for Indian cinema. One of the most celebrated and versatile actors in the country, he effortlessly bridged the worlds of mainstream blockbusters and parallel cinema. His illustrious journey in films began in 1960 with “Dil Bhi Tera, Hum Bhi Tere.” Over the decades, his performances in classics such as Sholay, Dharam Veer, Chupke Chupke, and Dream Girl cemented his place as one of Hindi cinema’s greatest stars.
In a poignant coincidence, Dharmendra’s final film, “Ikkis,” is set to release on December 25. The first look of the actor from the film was unveiled earlier today, adding emotional weight to the announcement of his passing.
Dharmendra is survived by his wife, veteran actress Hema Malini, and his first wife Prakash Kaur. He leaves behind a large and famous family, including Bollywood stars Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol, Esha Deol, and a total of six children.
