The Tamil Nadu government on Saturday announced the allocation of portfolios for the newly formed cabinet led by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay. The official order detailing ministers and their departments was issued in the evening.
Vijay has retained several key portfolios, including the crucial Home Department. Apart from home affairs, he will also oversee departments related to IAS, IPS and IFS administration, women welfare, youth welfare, child welfare, welfare of differently-abled persons, and Urban and Water Supply.
Senior leader K. A. Sengottaiyan has been appointed as the Finance Minister in the TVK-led government. Sources indicated that Sengottaiyan was entrusted with the finance portfolio because of concerns over the state’s financial situation and his prior administrative experience.
The portfolio distribution is being viewed as an attempt by the new government to balance political leadership with experienced governance in key sectors.
