Agra: Two Congress leaders were arrested on Monday following a protest outside Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s residence in Agra, where the main gate and a wall of the house were allegedly defaced with spray paint.
The protest was held by Congress workers at Kumar’s residence in Vijay Nagar. During the demonstration, protesters raised slogans against the Chief Election Commissioner and allegedly painted the words “Gyanesh Gaddar” and “Gyanesh Chor” on the property.
Following the incident, police registered a case at the Hari Parvat police station.
Agra Assistant Commissioner of Police Bajrang Prasad said Congress leader Mukesh Dhangar and party general secretary (organisation) Anil Yadav were arrested in connection with the alleged vandalism.
The arrests came amid ongoing political differences between the Congress and the Election Commission over electoral roll-related issues. Police said further investigation into the incident is underway.
