Sonia Gandhi Inaugurates Congress’ New Headquarters in Delhi, Marks Historic Shift

Congress Parliamentary Party leader Sonia Gandhi unveiled the party’s new headquarters, ‘Indira Gandhi Bhawan,’ located at 9A, Kotla Road, New Delhi. This significant event marks the end of an era, as the Congress party transitions from its previous headquarters at 24, Akbar Road, where it operated for 47 years.

The inauguration ceremony kicked off with party leaders hoisting the Congress flag, followed by the singing of ‘Vande Mataram’ and the national anthem. Sonia Gandhi, alongside Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, cut the ribbon at the entrance, officially opening the new building to the public.

Designed by renowned architect Hafeez Contractor and constructed by L&T, the modern five-storey ‘Indira Gandhi Bhawan’ is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, intended to serve as a hub for the party’s administrative and strategic operations. The building’s walls are adorned with significant photographs and memorabilia from the Congress party’s 139-year history, honoring icons such as Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Subhas Chandra Bose, and Rabindranath Tagore.

The inauguration reflects Congress’s efforts to modernize while staying true to its storied past. Senior leaders, including former party chief Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and K.C. Venugopal, attended the ceremony, celebrating this new chapter in the party’s history.
