Shimla: Ten trains on the historic Shimla-Kalka narrow-gauge railway line were cancelled after heavy rain triggered soil slippage and washed away the foundation supporting a section of the track in Himachal Pradesh’s Solan district, officials said on Sunday.
The damage occurred between Koti and Gumman railway stations, where continuous rainfall caused the soil beneath the track to erode, leaving a portion of the railway structure vulnerable.
Railway authorities suspended the popular toy train service following the incident on Saturday night as a precautionary measure.
The Shimla-Kalka line, known for its scenic route through the hills, is recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
