SC Special Lok Adalat Settles Over 400 Cases on First Day

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday settled more than 400 cases on the opening day of a three-day Special Lok Adalat organised under the “Samadhan Samaroh” initiative to encourage the amicable settlement of disputes.

More than 600 cases were taken up before 16 Special Lok Adalat benches constituted for the exercise. Each bench comprised two Supreme Court judges, supported by senior advocates, advocates-on-record and other lawyers.

The Special Lok Adalat began on Friday and will continue until August 23. The initiative is aimed at providing litigants with an opportunity to resolve disputes through mutual settlement and reduce the burden of prolonged litigation.

The exercise is part of the Supreme Court’s efforts to promote alternative dispute resolution and facilitate faster disposal of cases through consensus-based settlements.
