Free Bus Travel for Women in KSRTC Buses Begins Today

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government’s Priyadarshini Guarantee scheme offering free travel for women in KSRTC ordinary buses comes into effect from today. The programme will be inaugurated at 8.30 am at the Pappanamcode depot by Chief Minister V. D. Satheesan.

The inaugural service will be driven by Sheela, KSRTC’s first woman driver from the Perumbavoor depot, while the conductor will also be a woman. Around 20 dignitaries, including the Chief Minister and ministers, will travel on the inaugural journey from Thampanoor to the Secretariat.

The scheme has been implemented in 3,125 KSRTC buses across seven ordinary service categories, including Ordinary, City Ordinary, Limited Stop, Town-to-Town, Fair Stage Limited Stop, Point-to-Point Ordinary, and Gramavandi services. Free travel will be available to all women and transgender persons, irrespective of age.
