A 32-year-old man accused in the rape and murder of a minor boy was killed in a police encounter in the Mallawan area of Hardoi district Uthar Pradesh on Wednesday morning, officials said.
The accused, identified as Mehnoor, was the prime suspect in the killing of a seven-year-old boy whose body was recovered from a maize field in Matiyamau village on Tuesday.
According to police, the encounter occurred during an operation to apprehend the accused. A Special Operations Group (SOG) personnel was injured in the exchange of fire, a senior officer confirmed.
Further details regarding the incident and the condition of the injured officer were awaited.
