Abhishek Banerjee on Tuesday alleged widespread irregularities in the West Bengal Assembly elections, raising questions over the counting process and the role of election officials and security forces.
Speaking to reporters after a press conference addressed by party chief Mamata Banerjee in Kalighat, Abhishek Banerjee claimed that while votes recorded in electronic voting machines (EVMs) might remain unchanged, the machines themselves could have been replaced.
He alleged that such a possibility could alter the original voting outcome, suggesting that large-scale rigging may have taken place during the election process.
Banerjee’s remarks come a day after the Trinamool Congress suffered a significant defeat in the state polls.
There has been no immediate response from the Election Commission regarding the allegations.
