New Delhi: Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Monday stepped up his attack on the government over alleged police “brutalities” against student protesters, demanding the resignation of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
Gandhi claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s image has been “destroyed” and can never be rebuilt.
In an article published in The Hindu, the former Congress president said the youth of India would not allow the Prime Minister, the Home Minister or any government official to escape accountability for their actions.
Referring to the protests on July 20, 2026, Gandhi said thousands of young people across the country had taken to the streets to demand accountability from those elected to public office.
“Sooner or later, they will get that accountability,” Gandhi said, asserting that the government would have to face the consequences of its actions.
Gandhi’s remarks come amid heightened political tensions over the alleged police action against student protesters, with the Opposition seeking greater accountability from the government and senior officials.
