New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on wednesday extended greetings to wildlife enthusiasts on the occasion of Global Tiger Day, highlighting India’s achievements in tiger conservation and reaffirming the country’s commitment to protecting the species.
In a series of posts on X, the Prime Minister said India is proud to be home to nearly 70 per cent of the world’s tiger population, describing the country’s conservation success as a reflection of its long-standing tradition of living in harmony with nature.
Modi said India’s tiger conservation efforts are driven by a combination of science-based conservation, community participation and sustainable development. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening these initiatives to ensure the long-term protection of tigers and their habitats.
The Prime Minister also lauded the contributions of forest personnel, scientists and conservationists, saying their dedication has played a crucial role in safeguarding the country’s tiger population.
Emphasising the importance of balancing conservation with the needs of people, Modi said India remains committed to empowering local communities and reducing human-wildlife conflict while continuing its efforts to protect the iconic big cat.
