Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the remarkable response from senior citizens towards the Ayushman Vay Vandana Card, which was launched to ensure healthcare access for those aged 70 and above. Within just three weeks of its introduction, over 10 lakh senior citizens have enrolled under the scheme, highlighting the initiative’s importance and widespread appeal.
The Ayushman Vay Vandana Card is part of the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY), which provides up to ₹5 lakh annual health coverage per family. This card guarantees that senior citizens, irrespective of income status, can access free medical treatments for conditions such as coronary angioplasty, hip replacement, cataract surgery, and more. Women constitute a significant portion of the early enrollees, with around 4 lakh female beneficiaries recorded so far.
The PM’s acknowledgment underscores the government’s commitment to inclusive healthcare, particularly for India’s elderly population, reducing their financial burden and ensuring dignified care in their later years.
