Paschimbanga Divas Marks Bengal’s Struggle to Remain in India: PM Modi

Tarakeshwar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said that Paschimbanga Divas is not merely a date on the calendar but a reminder of the historic struggle that ensured West Bengal remained a part of India during Partition.

Addressing a gathering at Tarakeswar in Hooghly district after inaugurating and laying the foundation stone for several development projects, Modi recalled Bengal’s Partition-era history and highlighted the role played by Syama Prasad Mookerjee in safeguarding the interests of the region.

The Prime Minister alleged that there had been attempts during Partition to include the entire undivided Bengal in Pakistan, and asserted that June 20 marked a decisive moment in ensuring that West Bengal remained within India.

Launching a sharp attack on the Congress, Modi claimed that the party had “bowed before conspiratorial forces” during Partition and later attempted to erase the historical significance of Paschimbanga Divas. He alleged that Bengal’s history had been “whitewashed” for political reasons.

Blending historical references with contemporary politics, Modi said the aspirations that led to the creation of West Bengal in 1947 continue to inspire the state’s development and progress today.
