New Delhi: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken suo motu cognisance of a reported incident in which girl students of Classes IX and XI were allegedly frisked, forced to remove their clothes, and assaulted by two teachers at a government school in Liwali village of Rajasthan’s Sawai Madhopur district.
According to reports, the incident occurred after one of the teachers allegedly misplaced ₹1,000 and suspected the students of theft. Despite subjecting the students to physical searches and beating them, no money was recovered.
Taking serious note of the incident, the NHRC observed that, if the allegations are found to be true, they constitute a grave violation of the human rights of the students.
The Commission has issued a notice to the Rajasthan Chief Secretary, directing the state government to submit a detailed report on the matter within two weeks.
According to media reports, the students informed their parents about the alleged incident after returning home. The following day, a large number of parents gathered at the school to protest against the teachers’ actions.
