Aizawl: Mizoram Excise and Narcotics Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar on Thursday called on college students to stay away from drugs, raising concerns over the growing use of cannabis among young people.
Speaking at a drug abuse prevention awareness campaign held at a government college in Champhai, the minister identified the rising demand for and consumption of drugs as major factors contributing to the problem in the eastern Mizoram district.
Hmar expressed particular concern over cannabis use among students in high schools, higher secondary institutions and colleges. He urged young people to lead drug-free lives and encourage their peers to avoid substance abuse.
The minister also emphasised the importance of awareness among students in preventing drug abuse and addressing its growing prevalence among the younger generation.
