New Delhi: Delhi Police has appealed to the public to stay away from the Cockroach Janta Party’s (CJP) proposed ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ march at Connaught Place on Friday, while indicating that a limited group of people may be permitted to participate in a symbolic display of patriotism.
In a statement issued on Thursday, police said prohibitory orders were in force in Connaught Place and neighbouring areas to maintain law and order. However, it expressed willingness to facilitate a select group to wave the national flag and sing the national anthem at a suitable location.
Police said Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) had been imposed in the area to maintain peace and tranquillity and safeguard human lives as well as public and private property.
The advisory comes ahead of the proposed march, with police urging people to avoid gathering in the restricted areas and indicating that any symbolic celebration would have to comply with the prevailing restrictions.
