Aizawl: Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma on Monday stressed the importance of preserving indigenous craftsmanship and improving market opportunities for tribal artisans.
Speaking at the inauguration of the week-long Zo Fair in Aizawl, the Chief Minister said the history and cultural identity of the people of the North East have been safeguarded through traditional attire, handicrafts and indigenous skills long before they were documented in written records.
The Zo Fair is jointly organised by the Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India (TRIFED), under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, and the Mizoram Cooperation Department. The event brings together artisans from across the North East and various parts of Mizoram to exhibit traditional handicrafts, handwoven textiles, bamboo products, forest produce and indigenous food items, while promoting tribal heritage and expanding market access for local artisans.
