Milk from an ATM? Kerala’s Munnar Stuns Internet with Innovative Dairy Dispenser

In a delightful twist of technology and tradition, the serene hill town of Munnar in Kerala is now home to a milk-dispensing ATM, capturing the attention of the internet worldwide.

Scottish travel vlogger Hugh Garner, known as @hugh.abroad, recently stumbled upon the machine and shared his amazement in a viral video. Located in the bustling center of Munnar, the ATM allows customers to purchase fresh milk at just ₹52 per liter—simply by inserting cash and placing a container under the dispenser.

Operating from 8 AM to 7 PM, the machine holds up to 200 liters of milk and can dispense as much as 1,000 liters per day. It’s an initiative by the Lakshmi Ksheera Sahakarana Sangham in collaboration with the Kerala Department of Dairy Development, inaugurated in August 2024 by Minister J Chinchu Rani.

Garner called the concept “genius,” applauding its eco-friendly design, plastic reduction, and the ease of accessing fresh, local milk. His video has since gone viral, with viewers across the globe lauding the idea and hoping to see similar innovations in their own cities.
