Kerosene Supply Returns to Kerala: All Ration Card Holders to Benefit from May 2025

The Kerala government has announced the much-awaited resumption of kerosene distribution to all ration card holders starting May 2025, following a major allocation from the central government. A total of 5,676 kilolitres (56.76 lakh litres) has been allotted to the state, out of which 5,088 kilolitres will be distributed through ration shops. The remaining will be supplied to fishing vessels in June, offering relief to the coastal community. Yellow card holders under the Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) will receive 1 litre each, while pink, blue, and white card holders are entitled to 0.5 litre. Households without electricity will receive 6 litres per quarter. The supply must be procured from oil companies by May 29 and reach ration shops by May 31. To ensure fair distribution, District Supply Officers have been directed to verify ineligible entries claiming unelectrified status, approve kerosene dealers, and oversee taluk-level operations. This move follows a long pause in distribution—over a year for many and more than two-and-a-half years for others—caused by delays in previous procurement. The resumed supply is expected to bring much-needed relief to thousands of low-income households and the fishing community across the state.
