Thiruvananthapuram,: Amid the rising spread of communicable diseases across Kerala, the state government will convene the first meeting of its High-Power Committee on disease prevention and control on Saturday.
The meeting will be held in Thiruvananthapuram and is expected to be inaugurated by Health Minister K. Muraleedharan. Members of the High-Power Committee, senior government officials and MLAs from various districts will participate in the deliberations.
The meeting aims to strengthen measures related to disease prevention, preparedness, surveillance, treatment and inter-departmental coordination in response to the growing public health concerns.
Meanwhile, 10 new cases of Shigella infection were reported in the state on Friday. Three cases were confirmed in Kozhikode, while two cases each were reported from Thiruvananthapuram, Thrissur and Malappuram districts. One case was reported in Palakkad.
According to health authorities, 120 people have been infected with Shigella in Kerala so far this month, while five deaths linked to the disease have been reported.
The government is expected to review the current disease situation and formulate additional strategies to contain the spread of infectious diseases during the high-level meeting.
