Kerala Braces for Intense Monsoon: IMD Issues Orange Alert in 7 Districts, Statewide Rainfall Warnings in Place

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala is on high alert as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts intense monsoon activity across the state for the next five days. Seven districts — Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod — have been placed under Orange Alert, warning of very heavy rainfall (115.6 mm to 204.4 mm in 24 hours), while another seven districts are under Yellow Alert, indicating the possibility of heavy rain (64.5 mm to 115.5 mm). The alerts vary by date, with northern districts like Kannur and Kasaragod under prolonged Orange Alert from July 16 to 20. Southern and central regions, including Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, and Palakkad, face intermittent Yellow Alerts. Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant, especially in hilly and flood-prone areas. Fishermen and travelers are advised to follow official updates as the monsoon strengthens across the region.
