Kerala ASHA Workers to Launch Statewide Protest March from Kasaragod on May 5

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala ASHA Health Workers Association has announced a massive statewide protest march beginning on May 5 from Kasaragod, aiming to raise awareness and garner support for their long-standing demands related to wages, job security, and recognition.

The march will cover all districts in Kerala over a six-week period and will culminate in Thiruvananthapuram on June 17, where a massive public rally and demonstration are planned in front of the State Secretariat.

ASHA (Accredited Social Health Activist) workers, who have played a crucial role in grassroots-level healthcare delivery, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, are demanding fair wages, regularization of their services, pension benefits, and better working conditions.

Leaders of the association said the protest is not only about their rights but also about drawing public attention to the undervaluation of essential healthcare workers. “We are not volunteers anymore; we are vital health workers who deserve proper recognition and remuneration,” said an association representative.

The protest march is expected to receive support from trade unions, health sector organizations, and civil society groups as it moves through each district.
