India Protests After Reports of Iranian Firing on Ships Near Strait of Hormuz

New Delhi: India has lodged a strong protest with Iran following reports that Iranian forces opened fire on vessels, including Indian ships, after the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.

According to reports, the Ministry of External Affairs summoned the Iranian Ambassador over the incident involving firing at an Indian vessel. The ships were reportedly stationed at distances of 25, 20 and 3 nautical miles off the Oman coast when the firing took place.

Sources indicated that some Indian vessels, including one named Bhagyalakshmi, were turned back by Iranian authorities amid the heightened tensions.

In a related development, a supertanker carrying nearly two million barrels of crude oil bound for India has reportedly been detained by Iran.

The situation comes amid escalating tensions in the region, raising concerns over maritime security and energy supplies.
