India Climbs to 118th Rank in World Happiness Report; Finland Remains on Top

Washington: According to the United Nations’ World Happiness Report, India has improved its ranking to 118th place, marking an eight-position jump from its previous rank of 126 in 2023 and 2024. Finland continues to hold the top position, followed by Denmark and Iceland.

At the bottom of the list is Afghanistan, with Sierra Leone and Lebanon ranking just above it. Among India’s neighboring countries, Nepal ranks 92nd, Pakistan 109th, and China 68th.

The World Happiness Report assesses happiness levels based on six key factors: social support, per capita GDP, healthy life expectancy, freedom, generosity, and perception of corruption. Western nations continue to dominate the top 20 rankings, while Costa Rica and Mexico have made it to the top 10 for the first time. Meanwhile, the United States has dropped to 24th place, its lowest ranking yet, primarily due to growing economic inequality.

The report highlights Finland’s success as a result of its focus on environmental sustainability, mutual trust, and strong social bonds, which contribute to its consistent top ranking in the World Happiness Report.
