Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Wednesday felicitated judoka Asmita Dey for winning India’s first-ever gold medal in judo at the Commonwealth Games.
According to an official statement, Saha, who is in New Delhi to attend a BJP meeting, met the athlete at Tripura Bhavan and congratulated her on her historic achievement.
The Chief Minister praised Dey’s determination, discipline, perseverance and dedication, describing her success as a landmark moment for Indian judo.
Saha said Asmita Dey’s outstanding performance on the international stage has brought immense pride and honour to Tripura as well as the entire country.
He also expressed confidence that her achievement would inspire young athletes across the state and encourage more sportspersons to pursue excellence at the national and international levels.
