New Delhi: Congress MP Shashi Tharoor on Tuesday criticised the government’s response to the detention of Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi during a protest by INDIA bloc MPs, calling it “disgraceful.”
Tharoor said he was “horrified” by images showing Rahul Gandhi being allegedly manhandled and taken into detention during the protest.
“Horrified to see the images from New Delhi of the LoP, @RahulGandhi, being manhandled and dragged off to detention,” Tharoor said in a post on X.
He said the protest was against what he described as the disenfranchisement of 130 million voters and expressed confidence that justice would ultimately prevail.
Tharoor was unable to join the INDIA bloc MPs’ march from the Parliament House complex to the Election Commission’s office in New Delhi as he was in Berlin, Germany.
