Govt Assures Fuel Supply, Advises Against Panic Buying Amid West Asia Tensions

The Centre on Sunday said it is fully prepared to ensure uninterrupted supply of fuel and LPG across the country despite the evolving situation in West Asia, urging citizens not to panic buy.

According to the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, around 47 lakh domestic LPG cylinders were delivered on May 2 against bookings of 47.4 lakh, with no supply disruptions reported. Public sector oil companies have also conducted over 10,100 awareness camps and sold nearly 1.75 lakh 5-kg LPG cylinders since April.

Authorities confirmed that petrol pumps are operating normally and sufficient stocks of petrol and diesel are available nationwide. Citizens have been advised to rely on official information and avoid rumours.

In the maritime sector, the LPG carrier MT Sarv Shakti carrying over 46,000 metric tonnes of LPG has safely crossed the Strait of Hormuz and is expected to reach Visakhapatnam on May 13.

Meanwhile, flight operations in the Gulf region are gradually normalising, with the UAE resuming full airspace operations and services between India and West Asian countries continuing.

The government said coordinated measures are in place to ensure energy security, maintain supply chains, and safeguard Indian nationals in the region.
