The Odisha government has directed strict enforcement of safety protocols for all passenger vessels following the recent dam tragedy in Jabalpur that claimed at least 12 lives.
The incident occurred when a cruise boat carrying over 40 tourists capsized during a storm at Bargi Dam in Madhya Pradesh on Thursday evening.
In response, Principal Secretary of the Commerce and Transport Department NBS Rajput convened a high-level meeting to review safety measures for boats, cruises and other vessels operating in the state’s inland waterways.
Officials have been instructed to ensure compliance with safety guidelines to prevent similar incidents.
