New Delhi – The central government has rejected the Opposition’s claims regarding offshore mining in Kerala, stating that the allegations are misleading and politically motivated.
The controversy erupted after Congress leaders raised concerns over the environmental impact of opening offshore mining blocks to private players. They argued that allowing private companies to operate without a thorough assessment could pose a significant threat to marine life and coastal ecosystems.
However, government officials dismissed these allegations, asserting that all necessary environmental clearances and scientific evaluations are being conducted before granting any mining permits. They emphasized that the initiative aims to boost India’s mineral resource sector while ensuring environmental sustainability.
The issue has sparked political debate in Kerala, with the Opposition demanding greater transparency and stricter regulations before proceeding with any offshore mining projects. Meanwhile, the government maintains that the policy aligns with national interests and economic growth, ensuring a balanced approach between development and conservation.
