CPI(M) MP John Brittas Injured During Delhi Protest Detention, Seeks Independent Probe

New Delhi: CPI(M) leader and Rajya Sabha MP John Brittas was injured during his detention by Delhi Police personnel at a protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar on Sunday, following which he was taken to Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital for an X-ray and medical examination.

Brittas was reportedly lifted by police personnel during the detention. A video shared by the Communist Party of India (Marxist) showed him collapsing on the steps of a police bus. He was subsequently taken to the hospital for an examination to assess possible chest injuries.

Following the incident, Brittas wrote to President Droupadi Murmu, Rajya Sabha Chairman and Chief Justice of India, seeking urgent intervention, accountability and an independent investigation into the alleged police assault.
