Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Thursday criticised the Congress’ decision to sing only two stanzas of Vande Mataram at party events, calling it “anti-national” and alleging that the move was driven by the party’s “appeasement” politics.
Speaking to reporters in Dehradun, Dhami said the Congress Working Committee’s decision to sing the national song only partially was disrespectful to the sacrifices of freedom fighters who laid down their lives for the country.“
Congress has always done this,” Dhami alleged, claiming that the party had earlier also sought to divide Vande Mataram for political appeasement.
He further alleged that Congress was now reluctant to sing the song in its entirety because it invokes and praises India’s gods and goddesses.
