Ganderbal (Jammu and Kashmir), February 9 – A snow avalanche struck the Sarbal area of Sonamarg in Ganderbal district on Thursday, according to reports. Fortunately, there have been no reported casualties or injuries as a result of the incident.

The avalanche incident follows a series of warnings issued earlier by the Jammu and Kashmir Disaster Management Authority (JKDMA) on Monday, cautioning against potential avalanches in various districts. The JKDMA stated that avalanches with a ‘low danger level’ are likely to occur above 2,400 meters over Bandipore, Baramulla, and Kupwara.

Additionally, the JKDMA highlighted the possibility of avalanches with a ‘medium danger level’ above 2,200 meters in Doda, Kishtwar, Poonch, Ramban, and Ganderbal districts within the next 24 hours. Residents in these areas are advised to exercise caution and refrain from venturing into avalanche-prone regions.

The timely warnings from the JKDMA serve as a crucial alert for residents, urging them to take necessary precautions to ensure their safety in the face of potential avalanche threats. The local authorities continue to monitor the situation closely and provide guidance to the public in the affected regions.
